The Guildford community is mourning the loss of a 15-year-old boy who was fatally stabbed on Monday, January 19. Surrey Police attended an incident in woodland off Lido Road, Stoke Park, at 6.10pm following reports of a stabbing. Despite urgent efforts by officers, paramedics, and members of the public, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
The boy has been identified on a family-approved fundraising page as Gabriel Guembes, also known as Luis. Gabriel moved to the UK from Lima at a young age and is believed to have attended All Hallows School in Farnham. He has been described by friends and family as “an amazing son and an incredible young soul.”
A family friend writing on the online fundraiser said: “He was kind, bright, driven, and full of promise. A devoted student, a passionate soccer player, and a loving son, Gabriel had a smile that could light up a room and a heart that touched everyone he met. He was deeply loved and will be forever missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.”
The GoFundMe page has been created to assist with funeral costs and ease the financial pressures on Gabriel’s family. The page emphasises: “Any donation, share, or prayer means more than words can express. Your kindness and compassion will help carry this family through the darkest days of their lives. Thank you for standing with the Guembes family and for helping keep Gabriel’s beautiful spirit alive.”
Gabriel’s death has left a deep impression on the local community.
Guildford MP Zöe Franklin spoke to SurreyLive, saying: “You just don’t expect this sort of thing to happen in Guildford and just so tragic and devastating that this young person has lost their life and there is a family who will never have their young person come home, my heart just goes out to all of the family and all of the friends.”
