Chants of “Death to the IDF” made during a Bob Vylan performance at Glastonbury will not result in further investigation into hate crimes.
Avon and Somerset Police have decided that the actions do not merit further consideration or reprisal at a legal level.
The force confirmed that after reviewing the evidence, it does not meet the criminal threshold required by the Crown Prosecution Service for prosecution. “No further action will be taken on the basis there is insufficient evidential for there to be a realistic prospect of conviction,” the statement said.
The inquiry focused on several anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian chants and remarks made during the band’s set on the West Holts Stage, which was also streamed live across the UK and worldwide via the BBC iPlayer.
Police carried out a voluntary interview under caution with a man in his mid-30s in November and spoke to around 200 members of the public to determine if any criminal offences had occurred.
Avon and Somerset Police additionally reviewed legal precedents from other UK forces that have handled similar situations.
