BAKO Group Ltd has confirmed the completion of its acquisition of BAKO Western, following a vote in favour of the transaction by BAKO Western’s members.
The BAKO Group acquisition is described as the latest stage in the group’s ongoing expansion across the UK. It builds on a period of consolidation that has included the merger of its regional trading divisions in Preston, Durham and Wimbledon, alongside the acquisition of Finlay’s Foods in Northern Ireland in 2024.
Founded more than 60 years ago, BAKO Group supplies independent bakers and caterers with a broad range of ingredients and finished products from selected suppliers. The business also produces its own BAKO Select branded range.
Although BAKO Group and BAKO Western have shared a brand since an agreement reached in the 1960s, the two organisations have continued to trade independently until the completion of this deal.
Following the BAKO Group acquisition, the business will operate a multi-temperature fleet of more than 100 vehicles. Deliveries will be made to more than 5,000 customers through depots in Cullompton, Durham, Preston and Wimbledon, alongside Finlay’s Foods in Belfast. The enlarged group employs 440 people across the five locations.
BAKO Group chief executive Mike Tully said: “This acquisition is great news for BAKO’s customers across the UK and is a sign of our ongoing commitment to supporting the bakery industry, nationwide.
“Bringing the companies together provides substantial operational advantages, including optimised supply chains, increased buying power, shared resources, and enhanced production capabilities.
“In an increasingly turbulent world, we are confident that the combined strength of this unification will help us in our mission to support future generations of bakers across the entire country to succeed and thrive together.”
The BAKO Group acquisition brings two long-associated businesses under common ownership for the first time, strengthening the group’s national distribution and operational capabilities.
