The new Bournemouth International Film Festival is coming this October

The Bournemouth International Film Festival (BIFF) is taking place this year and is the first of its kind.

On Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th October, filmmakers, screenwriters and film lovers will join one another to celebrate films from a mixture of emerging talent and established filmmakers, as well as have the opportunity to network with one another.

The event is taking place at the Hilton Bournemouth on Terrace Road, and will showcase a variety of talent, whilst also holding industry panels, creative workshops, networking events and Q&As that ticket holders who interested in working in the film industry can attend.

BIFF was founded as a not-for-profit cultural initiative to screen a curated selection of national and international films submitted by filmmakers – including short and feature films, documentaries, and animation.

On Saturday 4th October, there will also be a black-tie awards night and after-party that attendees can get a ticket to. This will celebrate the best films on display at BIFF 2025, selected by a national judging panel of award-winning writers, directors, and producers.

Steve McCarten, Bournemouth-based festival director, said “This is more than a festival. It’s the beginning of a long-term cultural investment in our region. We want to showcase brilliant national and international work, whilst also building real opportunities for the next generation of local filmmakers here in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.”

He adds: “While the weekend itself will be a celebration of independent storytelling, BIFF is also designed to deliver year-round impact through educational outreach, community projects and partnerships with regional creative organisations. Supported by local institutions, businesses and public sector partners, the festival is positioning itself as a key driver of Bournemouth’s creative and cultural identity. BIFF is committed to accessible pricing, diverse programming, and inclusive participation from audiences of all ages and backgrounds.”

Filmmakers and screenwriters are invited to submit their work by 12th September.
