Research by HBF highlights the environmental and energy efficiency savings achieved in new homes. Carbon emissions are typically 33 per cent lower than in older homes, while upgrading a second-hand property to modern standards can cost £70,000.
Bellway is offering a variety of incentives to help people to secure their own new energy-efficient home this autumn. These range from £10,000 upwards on selected plots and can be used towards a deposit, to reduce mortgage payments, or to pay for upgrades such as flooring and appliances.

The home is equipped with a range of low-carbon technologies, including an air source heat pump, solar panels and underfloor heating, to minimise emissions. The family moved from a three-bedroom ex-council house in Walsall.
Simon said: “At the height of the winter months at the old house, which had a gas boiler, we were paying about £150 a week, so that’s more than £600 a month for our energy bills.
“In our first winter in the new house, when it was coldest I was only paying about £50 a week for the energy bills, which included running a hot tub in the garden too.
“We want to do our bit to help save the planet and by buying a Future Home like this we are doing that and we are slashing our bills at the same time. It’s a win-win situation.”
