Bargate submits plans for Braishfield housing development near Romsey

Housebuilder Bargate has lodged an outline planning application for a residential scheme of up to 60 homes in the Hampshire village of Braishfield, close to Romsey. The proposal relates to an 11.1-acre site that is currently in arable use and benefits from a draft allocation.

If approved, the Braishfield housing development would deliver one to four bedroom properties. Forty per cent of the homes would be designated as affordable housing, contributing to local supply. The scheme is intended to respond to identified housing need while remaining proportionate to the village setting.

All properties within the Braishfield housing development would be built to achieve a high EPC rating. The plans include the use of green technologies such as solar panels, air source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging points, reflecting a focus on sustainability.

Bargate is working with Mosaic Urban Design on the proposals. In addition to housing, the plans include the creation of a multi-functional green space for recreation and play. New footpaths and a surface water drainage system are also proposed as part of the wider site infrastructure.

The site is located directly north of Romsey. It sits opposite the Wheatsheaf Inn and Braishfield Primary School and Social Club, placing the development close to existing village amenities.

Mark White, managing director of Bargate, commented on the submission. “We are excited about the opportunity to create a quality family-orientated development in Braishfield.”

He added: “With the village centre opposite, this site is ideally located to help facilitate sustainable growth for this popular neighbourhood and deliver much-needed energy-efficient new homes.”

White said the proposals would broaden local choice. “This scheme would significantly add to the housing mix in the immediate area, while also providing high-quality green infrastructure.”

He concluded: “We look forward to working alongside Test Valley’s officers, councillors and consultees while the application is being considered.”
